THE LODGE & YOU: BRIDGING GENERATIONS
Portland-based Sons of Norway Grieg Lodge was founded in 1910 and built its home, Norse Hall in 1928. We are an all-volunteer, non-profit fraternal organization with nearly 700 members, dedicated to supporting an array of social, cultural, educational and humanitarian pursuits connected with our community, and Norwegian and Scandinavian heritage – old and new!

You’ll find all the traditions at the Lodge: Syttende Mai Celebration & Parade (May 17, Norwegian Constitution Day), Norwegian Christmas Party, Lutefisk Dinner, along with newer ones, like our monthly social event TGIFF (Thank Goodness It’s Fourth Friday), and our ever-popular Viking Pancake Breakfasts.

Membership in Grieg Lodge is being part of an extended family of all ages.  Our bonds stretch from the past and into the future – with plenty going on right now.  Working, playing and sharing meaningful time together adds multi-generational, cross-cultural dimension and support to busy or changing lives. PORTLAND’S HISTORIC NORSE HALL
As a member of Grieg Lodge, your second home is Portland’s historic Norse Hall.  Located just across the river from the city’s downtown in the up-and-coming Lower East Burnside neighborhood, Norse Hall is a beautiful and beloved facility, and among the last remaining ethnic halls in Portland. It houses one of the finest ballrooms in town, a large stage, two dining rooms and kitchens, spacious meeting room, beautiful library, Nordic arts & crafts showcase and the friendly Oslo lounge. (Free wi-fi, too!)

LET’S DANCE!
Norwegian folk-dancing, Nordic Fusion, Strictly Ballroom – and a whole lot more! Norse Hall has been the go-to-dance-ballroom in Portland since 1928, and was named Best of the City 2007 by Portland Monthly Magazine.

Apart from Grieg Lodge-sponsored dancing events and classes for children & adults, if there’s a community dance activity happening in this city (swing, waltz, tango, zydeco, old time – you name it), it’s probably happening at Norse Hall. Our vintage 1940s neon “Dance Tonight” sign says it all.

SCHOLARSHIPS, GRANTS & COMMUNITY SERVICE
Grieg Lodge members have long supported the educational, creative and cultural efforts of our community through annual college scholarships (www.glscholarshipfund.org), grants to local arts groups, and volunteerism.

LEADERSHIP, VOLUNTEERISM & YOU
Whether you volunteer a little or a lot your passions, gifts and commitment will open doors both inside Grieg Lodge and in the community at large.  Bring your ideas and your energy, and you’ll find a place to express yourself, help others, and have fun.  You can even gain (or mentor) marketable skills in event planning and management, non-profit governance, marketing and publicity, design and advertising, bookkeeping, fundraising, youth guidance, recruiting and outreach, project and facility management, library operations and more.  Active Grieg Lodge members gain – and share – real-world leadership experience and skills that count with employers, advance personal growth and enrich the community.
